High School Band and Strings Camp (Two Week Option)
June 16- June 28, 2013
High School string players will have a full two weeks of a variety of music! The first week focuses on string chamber music and string orchestra. Musical experiences for the week include chamber music rehearsals and coachings with our faculty members, as well as sectionals and rehearsals with the Foster High School String Orchestra. The week culminates with performances of chamber ensembles and the string orchestra concert on Friday night. During the second week, string campers will be joined by selected band members to form a Symphony Orchestra. During this time students will practice and perform a major piece of symphony music. Throughout camp, students will also be involved in masterclasses, sectionals and small ensembles. But it’s not just about rehearsal-there is a full range of opportunities to have fun as well-a picnic, dances, movie nights, and more! If you love making music and having fun, come join us at Foster Orchestra camp!
The Stephen Collins Foster High School Band Camp, the original of all the Foster Camps, is now in its 77th season. A Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform an outdoor concert at EKU's breathtaking Van Peursam Amphitheater on Saturday evening of the first week, as well as the Camp Grand Finale Concert on Friday, the last day of camp. Students will also have the opportunity to play in small ensembles throughout the duration of camp, and with the Foster Camp Symphony Orchestra during Week Two. Our fine instrumental faculty, student counselors and staff make every effort to provide an educational experience with time for fun and recreation.
Percussion Students: Please note that if you are planning on attending the two week high school band camp you will need to register for the World Percussion/2nd Week High School Band option. You will still participate with the band during the first week.
Students participating in both the Band and Strings camps will have the opportunity to participate in:
Student and Faculty Recitals
Daily "Enrichment Classes" on a variety of musical subjects
Weekly Master Classes
State-of-the Art Recreational Program
Private Lessons Optional At Extra Cost ($20.00 per lesson)
It is strongly recommended that students plan on attending both weeks of camp. If for scheduling or other reasons attending both weeks of camp is not possible, students my register for only one week. Please see the High School Band and Strings Camp (One Week Option) page for more information.
Afternoon activities are planned each evening for the campers. Activities include, but are not limited to, tennis, soccer, basketball, swimming, kickball, softball, movies, indoor/outdoor games, board games, video game tournaments, etc. We offer several afternoon activities each evening allowing students to choose their favorites.
