High School Band and Strings Camp
First Week: June 16-22, 2013
Second Week: June 23-28, 2013
While Foster Camp strongly encourages students to attend the entire session of the High School Band and Strings Camp, we recognize that this is not always an option. For students who are unable to commit to both weeks, Foster Camp offers students the choice to attend either the first or second week only.
Students who choose to come to the first week of High School Strings Camp will participate in the String Orchestra and string chamber music ensembles under the direction of our experienced faculty. The week will culminate with performances by the chamber ensembles and the string orchestra concert on Friday night.
During the second week of camp, the string students will be joined by select band students to form a Symphony Orchestra. The focus of this week is to perform a major piece of symphony music on the final concert, and students will experience master classes, sectionals, and rehearsals with our Foster Camp faculty. In summer of 2007, the Foster High School Symphony performed an entire Beethoven symphony on the final concert. This is an experience that could only be had at Foster-no other youth orchestras in the Central Kentucky area perform full symphonies! Of course, it’s not just about music-there will be plenty of social opportunities, including movies, dances, and the biggest water-balloon fight in Richmond! If you love making music and having fun, come join us at Foster Orchestra camp!
The Stephen Collins Foster High School Band Camp, the original of all the Foster Camps, is now in its 77th season. A Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform an outdoor concert at EKU's breathtaking Van Peursam Amphitheater on Saturday evening of the first week, as well as the Camp Grand Finale Concert on Friday, the last day of camp. Students will also have the opportunity to play in small ensembles throughout the duration of camp, and with the Foster Camp Symphony Orchestra during Week Two. Our fine instrumental faculty, student counselors and staff make every effort to provide an educational experience with time for fun and recreation.
Percussion Students: If you are planning on attending the first week of high school band camp you will need to register for the World Percussion Workshop. You will still participate with the band during this time.
Students in both the Band and Strings camps will get the opportunity to participate in the following:
Student and Faculty Recitals
Daily "Enrichment Classes" on a variety of musical subjects
Weekly Master Classes
State-of-the Art Recreational Program
Private Lessons Optional At Extra Cost ($20.00 per lesson)
Afternoon activities are planned each evening for the campers. Activities include, but are not limited to, tennis, soccer, basketball, swimming, kickball, softball, movies, indoor/outdoor games, board games, video game tournaments, etc. We offer several afternoon activities each evening allowing students to choose their favorites. Throughout the high school camp students will attend several concerts, including performances from our professional faculty and staff on various instruments and repertoire and other camps concerts. Campers will also participate in several small ensemble concerts throughout the week. This provides many campers the opportunity of a life time to hear professional players and perform in various small ensembles.
What are you waiting for...Join in on the fun and be a part of the tradition!
