High School Band & Strings Camp!

The 2008 Stephen Collins Foster High School
Band and Strings Camp is in it's Seventy-Second Season!

Strings Camp

Week One
High School string players will have a week full of a variety of music!  The focus of Week 1 is String Chamber music and String Orchestra.  Students will make music under the guidance of our exciting and experienced Foster Camp faculty members.  Musical experiences for the week include chamber music rehearsals and coachings with our faculty members as well as sectionals and rehearsals with the Foster High School String Orchestra, culminating with a String Orchestra concert on Friday night and a Chamber music concert on Sunday afternoon.  But it’s not just about rehearsal-there is a full range of opportunities to have fun as well-a picnic, dances, movie nights, and more!

Week Two

Week Two of Foster Orchestra Camp gives campers the opportunity to be a part of the High School Symphony Orchestra.  The focus of this week is to perform a major piece of symphony music on the final concert, and students will experience master classes, sectionals, and rehearsals with our Foster Camp faculty.  In summer of 2007, the Foster High School Symphony performed an entire Beethoven symphony on the final concert.  This is an experience that could only be had at Foster-no other youth orchestras in the Central Kentucky area perform full symphonies!  Of course, it’s not just about music-there will be plenty of social opportunities, including movies, dances, and the biggest water-balloon fight in Richmond!  If you love making music and having fun, come join us at Foster Orchestra camp!

*students may choose to attend both weeks (recommended) or, if scheduling won’t allow both, just a single week of camp.

The second week will culminate with the Gala Concert featuring the Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, and choral groups from the Vocal Camp. (see bottom of page for afternoon activities and string schedule examples)

Band Camp

The Stephen Collins Foster High School Band Camp is well-known across the country for the training of student-musicians!  The Camp is the culminating experience for the many young musicians who return year after year for the "Foster Experience".

A Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will be formed to present an outdoor concert at EKU's breathtaking Van Peursam Amphitheater on Saturday evening of the first week, as well as the Camp Grand Finale Concert on Friday, the last day of camp. .

Also, throughout the high school camp students will attend several concerts, including performances from our professional faculty and staff on various instruments and repertoire and other camps concerts. Campers will also participate in several small ensemble concerts throughout the week.  This provides many campers the opportunity of a life time to hear professional players and perform in various small ensembles.
