In the year 1968 Stephen Collins Foster Music Camps acquired one of its most cherished, devoted and determined directors in the camp’s history, Dr. Robert W. Hartwell. His unprecedented passion for music education and students led Foster Camp to 30 plus flourishing seasons.  Hartwell’s personality and work ethic towards students and music in general was unparalleled. While camp director Hartwell also served as Director of Bands at Eastern Kentucky University. 

Sadly, on February 15, 2008 Dr. Robert W. Hartwell passed away. Throughout his life thousands of young students were touched, many of which came to see him each summer at Foster Music Camps.

On Friday June 27^th, 2008 the 73^rd season of the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp will pay their respects and honor Dr. Robert W. Hartwell with a musical arrangement for band, orchestra, and choir. This work will be dedicated and performed in his honor.

 We cordially invite all past Foster Campers, students, colleagues and any others that may have been touched by this magnificent man to perform in the camps 73^rd Grand Finale Performance.

 The event is free to all who wish to attend. Spots will be available in band, orchestra, and chorus. Even if your singing skills or band “chops” or not up to par, we encourage you to dust off your instrument or vocal cords and join us for this amazing event.

Due to the “mass” potential of this event we will be limiting our band and orchestra Tribute participants, however, we are allowing an unlimited amount of choral participants.

Registration to perform is free and may be done with the form below. All participants must register by June 1 in order to allow for proper arrangements to be made. Attending the event is free, but everyone who wishes to perform MUST register to allow for proper preparation.

Participants should be prepared to rehearse on the morning of  June 27^th. The Grand Finale performance and the Dr. Robert W. Hartwell Tribute will take place that night in the Van Peursem Amphitheatre. Participants will be playing/singing on the entire Grand Finale event, which includes 4 to 5 pieces. More information will be sent once everyone has registered.
